Trier to Leiwen
The bike tour starts on the historical bike path. You drive along the Moselle past meadows, forests and vineyards. On the way you stop in a vinotheque for a “Deluxe” cyclist's feast before you continue along the Roman Wine Route on the Moselle Cycle Path to Leiwen.
Leiwen to Bernkastel-Kues
In the oldest wine village in Germany you can see a faithful replica of a Roman wine ship and in Piesport one of the largest Roman wine presses north of the Alps. Continue along the Moselle cycle path to Bernkastel-Kues, where you park your bike and explore the fairytale old town. In the evening you shouldn't miss a tour of the medieval city. Possibly accompanied by a night watchman who can tell many interesting stories. You spend two nights in Bernkastel-Kues.
Circular route Bernkasteler Schweiz
Today you hike over a few inclines and serpentines through Bernkasteler Schweiz, where you are accompanied by the Tiefenbach. The Bresgensruh lookout point is located steeply above the small waterfall. A narrow path takes you to the stone cross before you reach the Burgberg tunnel and the old town of Bernkastel again.
Bernkastel-Kues to Traben-Trarbach
You drive down the Moselle on the Moselle Cycle Path and reach the Machern monastery. An excellent beer is brewed here. Distillates can also be tasted in a cellar. After visiting the monastery, you continue to cycle to the the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach, which not only impresses with its winding streets and the Buddha Museum. You will spend the next two days in Traben-Trarbach.
Traben-Trarbach to Reil
Right at the beginning of the Moselsteig Trail stage, the steep ascent to the ruins of the Grevenburg demands your fitness. If you decide to take the part of the pilgrimage path on the way, then the view from the Heavenly Gate is particularly impressive. From the Bismarckhöhe you can enjoy an incomparable view of the loop art of the Moselle right before Traben-Trarbach. The later descent to the wine town of Reil is done quickly and takes you directly to the town's train station. Before leaving Reil, you should try a glass of the Reiler hot stone. The way back to Traben-Trarbach is easy with the Moselle excursion boat.
