Own managed arrival to Metz
Your cycling holiday starts in Metz, a former main residence of Rome, where you can admire buildings dating back three millennia, including the impressive cathedral and the theatre island.
Metz to Perl
Follow the cycle path along the Moselle, past numerous canals and through a flat, lakes-rich landscape. After the village of Gavisse, light rim mountains begin, which form the typical course of the Moselle with their loops.
In Thionville, the cycle path is well signposted as “Le Chemin de la Moselle” and continues through the charming Moselle valley. Finally, you reach Perl, the starting point of the uniformly signposted Moselle cycle path in Germany.
Perl to Trier
The Moselle Cycle Route from Perl to Trier is a picturesque route that leads through a beautiful landscape and cultural route. The route starts in Perl, where the Moselle runs its typical loops through the elevated rim mountains. On this route, the river forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany. An area that was already inhabited by the Romans and has a long tradition of wine-growing.
Along the Moselle cycle path there are numerous castles, palaces and Roman remains, such as the mosaic in Nennig. In Konz, the Saar meets the Moselle, which enriches the flow of water and the Saar cycle path joins the Moselle cycle path. The route ends in Trier, a city full of historical sights, including the famous Porta Nigra and many other testimonies from Roman and ecclesiastical times.
Once in Trier, you can look forward to a glass of sparkling wine at the Hauptmarkt.
Trier to Leiwen
From Trier, you continue along the Moselle cycle path, where you cycle at the first bridge to the left bank of the Moselle. First, the cycle path leads through an industrial area and the harbour area before turning back to the Moselle.
