Own managed arrival to Cochem
Start your hiking holiday on the Moselle and explore the city of Cochem. If you wish, you can take a boat trip on the Moselle or hike to the Reichsburg. End the day with a winegrower with cheese and wine.
Cochem to Treis-Karden
This first stage of your hike on the Moselsteig is quite demanding and requires good surefootedness. It goes up and down through beautiful nature in the Dortebach valley, along vineyards and stream valleys. You can overcome the first meters of altitude with a cable car and reach the Pinnerkreuz with a great view of Cochem and the Moselle. You will walk past a rushing waterfall and if you are lucky you will see the native Apollo butterfly or the green lizard. Shortly before the stage destination Treis-Karden you can take a detour to the Martberg Archeology Park, a Roman-Celtic sanctuary.
Treis-Karden to Moselkern
Today's varied stage of the Moselsteig begins at the Moseldom, the church with the impressive towers of Treis-Karden, which leads you steadily uphill through stands of boxwood and over rocky paths to the Kompeskopf refuge. You then hike through the wild and romantic forest gorge of the Krailsbach. Safety ropes help with the steep descent over rocks before you come to the Elz Valley on the Müdener Berg with the Kreuzweg chapel. The fairytale Eltz Castle rises up in front of you and invites you to visit. Take your time and immerse yourself in the Middle Ages. Now it is not far to Moselkern, where you are staying today.
