Hiking trail: Moselsteig - stages 19 to 24
Past famous castles and through the terraced wine-growing landscape, the sporty day stages lead directly to Koblenz.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO COCHEM
Explore the lively old town with its winding, narrow streets or, if you wish, take a boat trip on the Moselle. We wish you a nice first day of your vacation.
DAY 2: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 19 | COCHEM BIS TREIS-KARDEN | 24 KM | Ø 8 HOURS
The first hiking stage begins quite demanding and requires good surefootedness - alternatively, you can also take the cable car up to the Pinnerkreuz. You follow the Moselsteig up and down through beautiful nature in the Dortebach Valley, along vineyards and stream valleys. You walk past a small waterfall and if you are lucky you will come across the native Apollo butterfly or the green lizard. The former Romanesque collegiate church of St. Castor can be found in your stage destination Treis-Karden; popularly also called Moseldom. The building got this surname not least because of the impressive towers that are visible from afar.
DAY 3: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 20 | TREIS-KARDEN TO MOSELKERN | 13 KM | Ø 4 HOURS
Today's hike leads through stands of boxwood and over rocky paths to a refuge. From here you hike through the wild and romantic forest gorge of the Krailsbach. Safety ropes help with the steep descent over rocks before you reach the Elz Valley on the Müdener Berg with the Kreuzweg chapel. The fairytale Eltz Castle rises up in front of you and invites you to visit. Now it is not far to Moselkern, where you are staying today.
DAY 4: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 21 | MOSELKERN TO LÖF | 14 KM | Ø 4 HOURS
It goes up on steep paths. Once at the top, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Moselle and Baybach valleys. The dream path Hatzenporter Laysteig accompanies part of the Moselsteig here. For the very sporty, the Dolling via ferrata attracts with rope-secured passages and ladders. Via the Rabenlay with hut and rest area, you continue to walk to Löf.
OUR RECOMMENDATION: plan a day of rest here.
DAY 5: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 22 | LÖF TO KOBERN-GONDORF | 15 KM | Ø 5 HOURS
A fantastic stage and the former knight's castle Thurant with its twin towers is waiting for you. The hiking trail takes you to the Sieben-Fußfalls-Kreuzweg on the Bleidenberg. The two panorama points Hitzlay and Mönch-Felix-Hütte offer wonderful views. You reach your stage destination Kobern-Gondorf via steep serpentines.
DAY 6: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 23 | KOBERN-GONDORF TO WINNINGEN | 14 KM | Ø 5 HOURS
Through the Mühltal you follow the trail of the Pawworm to Niederburg, Oberburg and the Matthias Chapel. The Moselsteig Trail leads uphill to the Blumslay viewpoint. Soon you will reach Winningen, one of the picturesque places on the Moselle. The founder of the Audi automobile workshop, August Horch, was born here.
DAY 7: MOSELSTEIG STAGE 24 | WINNINGEN TO KOBLENZ | 15 KM | Ø 4 HOURS
This last stage of your hiking holiday leads rather comfortably to Koblenz. Only at the beginning do you have to divide your fitness level over steep paths up to the Domgartenhütte. The Moselsteig Trail ends in Güls, and a beautiful approach path begins here, which ends at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE FROM KOBLENZ
Your active journey with many days of hiking now comes to an end in Koblenz. Take the cable car up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and enjoy the panoramic view from above over the city, the rivers and the surrounding area. After your hiking tour, fortify yourself with a refreshing drink and a snack in the beer garden, café or restaurant. You are welcome to plan rest days in Koblenz or during intermediate stages.
